The vineyard and winery were founded by Liz and Edgar Scherzinger who came to Summerland in 1974. Edgar planted some of the first Gewürztraminer in 1978 with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to follow. In fact Edgar was one of the first growers to plant Vinifera vines in the Okanagan Valley. The grapes were contracted out to other wineries until 1995 when the winery was established. They never looked back. By 1999 Liz and Edgar were ready to retire and they managed to convince their friends Ron & Cher Watkins that this would be a great lifestyle and business to get into. Ron had taken some viticulture courses years ago, and now started to work closely with the Scherzingers to learn the business. After a transition of some time, Ron & Cher bought the winery in May 2001. The winery now hosts a selection of 10 different wines crafted in a fruit forward style. The patio is fabulous and you are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a glass of wine along with the terrific view and peaceful setting. Light snacks are also available. Visiting Scherzinger Vineyards is like going back to the old country. It’s unpretentious surroundings, charm and welcome provided by Ron & Cher and their staff, provide a true farmgate winery experience.

Scotch Block is one of Halton's best kept secrets. Those who visit our 10th Sideroad Winery will be treated to a sampling of wonderful wines, ranging from dry fruit and grape wines, to ice and dessert wines. The name "Scotch Block Winery" was chosen as a tribute to the Scottish settlers who in 1820 were the first European immigrants to survey and settle in Esquesing Township, Halton County. Scotch Block Winery is nestled in the area known as Scotch Block - an area of rich, fertile, rolling farmland of which the scenic Niagara Escarpment is a breathtaking backdrop. Laurie and Bert Andrews along with their young children Angela, Kurtis and Valerie established Andrews Scenic Acres in 1980. Just over three years ago it was decided that the berry, sweet corn and pumpkin farm would take on a new and exciting challenge of being the first farm winery in the Region of Halton. It was a natural extension of our customer oriented business of supplying fresh and frozen strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, currants, go seberries and elderberries. We are also experimenting with tree fruits of apples, cherries, pears, plums and peaches. Our newest challenge is the vineyard of winter hardy French Hybrid and Vinefera grapes. Bert says, "to make excellent quality wine you must start with excellent quality fruit". "The only way to be assured of excellent quality fruit for batch after batch of wine is to grow the fruit yourself". In 1991 Bill Redelmeier made real his long time dream of opening his own boutique winery. A few years later, Southbrook opened its doors to the public, showcasing its first 4000 cases of wine. Since its modest beginning Southbrook has earned over 150 international medals and trophies for their table wines and fruit wines. Southbrook"s recent achievements include: Wine of the Year at the 2001 Air Ontario Awards for their 1999 Triomphe Cabernet Merlot, and a Gold Medal at the 2001 International Wine Challenge, in London England, for their 1998 Triomphe Chardonnay. In May of 1996 Southbrook"s unique Framboise Fruit Wine became the first Ontario wine to be carried by Harrod"s department store in England. Southbrook was recently awarded three medals at the Ottawa WIne Fair held in October 2001.
